Basketball Recap: Brewer Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Brewer saw some tournament action on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-32 victory over the Covenant Christian Eagles. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Eagles are ranked 359th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brewer had a senior duo take command as Kaden Steadham went 5 for 12 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight boards and five steals and Cason Oden dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Steadham has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Dunn, who posted six points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Brewer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive games.

Brewer's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Covenant Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Brewer wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-47 defeat against Central on the 28th. As for Covenant Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-36 loss against Phil Campbell on the 28th.
