The Marion Giants pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hamilton Southeastern. Marion was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hamilton Southeastern apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Jaymen Townsend and Tim Jones certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Townsend scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds, while Jones scored 16 points along with 3 steals. Townsend scored a full 37.5% of Marion's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tusi Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Hamilton Southeastern can attribute much of their success to Nate Orr, who scored 26 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Hamilton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Marion's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Hamilton Southeastern, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marion will take on Richmond at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton Southeastern will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fishers at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th.
