Farmersville (Calif.) beat Laton (Calif.) 52-12 on the strength of
Sam Metcalf, who tossed seven touchdown passes.
After taking the lead on a two-point conversion in the first quarter, the Aztecs led 33-12 at the half.
Farmersville grew its lead to 40 points entering the fourth quarter. FHS scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown.
Metcalf and De La Cruz teamed up to form a dynamic passing combination. De La Cruz caught three touchdowns and Metcalf threw seven. De La Cruz has now caught three touchdowns this season, while Metcalf has thrown 27.
Metcalf stood out for the Aztecs in the win. The junior quarterback threw seven touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Farmersville has had a tough season, allowing 32.0 points per game. However, Farmersville's defense dug in and limited the Mustangs well below their season average of 25.3 points per game.
The Aztecs also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 49-7.
The defeat comes as a step back for Laton, which notched a 33-29 victory over Orosi in its previous outing. The loss ended Laton's three-game winning streak.
