New Plymouth is 9-1 against Melba since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Pilgrims will challenge the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in New Plymouth's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last seven matches.
On Tuesday, New Plymouth made easy work of Vision and carried off a 17-1 victory. The Pilgrims haven't had any issues with Vision recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Makiah Weideman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lauren Ferreira was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Averi Albisu, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
New Plymouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vision only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Melba's offense. They lost 15-0 to Nampa Christian on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 2, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Melba also got a good showing from Dickard Abi, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
New Plymouth's record is now 8-2. As for Melba, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
New Plymouth's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Pilgrims have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Melba, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will New Plymouth continue to outrun the ball?
New Plymouth skirted past Melba 9-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pilgrims since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
