Basketball Recap: August Shaw Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southwest

A well-balanced attack led Dundy County-Stratton over Southwest in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Everything went the Dundy County-Stratton Tigers' way against the Southwest Roughriders as the Dundy County-Stratton Tigers made off with an 80-56 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Dundy County-Stratton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from August Shaw, who went 8 for 16 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Those 20 points gave Shaw a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Bybee, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Dundy County-Stratton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Houston Billeter and Deric Kelley certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Billeter went 8 for 16 en route to 31 points along with five boards and three steals, while Kelley went 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 55.4% of Southwest's points, marking the 14th time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Dundy County-Stratton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.3 points per game. As for Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Dundy County-Stratton and Southwest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Dundy County-Stratton will take on Cozad at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday down 75 places (95 vs. 20). Similarly, Southwest (ranked 235th) will meet Perkins County (ranked 67th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
