The Mater Dei Monarchs and the Riviera Prep Bulldogs (ranked 37 and 64 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile game. Mater Dei enjoyed a cozy 84-68 win over Riviera Prep on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but Mater Dei sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Owen Verna continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 34 points along with six rebounds. The contest was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Barnett, who scored 18 points.
Mater Dei's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Riviera Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Mater Dei's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hoover at 2:00 p.m. on December 27th. Hoover has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 377 points over their last five contests. Riviera Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gulliver Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2024.
