It was a good run, but the Concord Christian Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Berean Christian by a score of 62-60. Concord Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Concord Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Drew Sloan and Dominic Alford. Sloan dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Alford scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Alford hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Keeton, who scored seven points.
Berean Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deonte Smith led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven assists and three steals. Dalton Claiborne was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Concord Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-10. As for Berean Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
The pair will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Berean Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. As for they, they will head out on the road to take on Concord Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Concord Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games.
