If the Fort Hancock Mustangs were riding high off their 78-45 takedown of the El Paso HomeSchool Panthers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fort Hancock was beaten by Wink 70-43 on Tuesday. Fort Hancock has struggled against Wink recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Fort Hancock had strong showings from Emmanuel Herrera, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Zaid Hermosillo, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 41.9% of Fort Hancock's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Ethan Cahill went supernova for Wink, scoring 17 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cahill has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Gallardo, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Fort Hancock has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for Wink, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Hancock will challenge Anthony at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Anthony's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Fort Hancock has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Wink, they will challenge McCamey at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully McCamey focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
