The Gilbert Indians's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They strolled past Swansea with points to spare, taking the game 48-31. This was payback for Gilbert, who suffered a 43-32 loss the last time these two teams met.
Gilbert got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Campbell out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Campbell also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Anabel Godfrey was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Swansea saw an underclassman step up: Iyanna Butler dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Swansea struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Gilbert posted 12 assists.
Gilbert is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Swansea, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilbert will square off against the Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Orangeburg-Wilkinson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Tuesday. As for Swansea, they will head out on the road to take on the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dreher is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
