Pilgrim is a perfect 3-0 against Ponaganset since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Patriots will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Chieftains at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Pilgrim got the win against North Kingstown by a conclusive 9-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.
Gretchen Dombeck was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Dombeck was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Genna D'Amato, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Skylar Hawes was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Pilgrim was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Kingstown only posted a batting average of .154.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Toll Gate. Winning may never get old, but the Chieftains sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row dating back to last season.
Ava DiFiore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Maia Salvo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Duncan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Everything went Pilgrim's way against Ponaganset when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Pilgrim made off with an 8-0 victory. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Chieftains have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
