After three games on the road, Sutherland is heading back home. They will take on the Maxwell Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sutherland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact Sutherland proved. They took down Garden County 42-28. Sutherland pushed the score to 38-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sutherland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mahala Vasquez, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vasquez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Glory Naughtin, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Maxwell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 44-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wallace. Maxwell has not had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Sutherland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-12 record this season. As for Maxwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Sutherland barely slipped by the Wildcats when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 36-35. Will Sutherland repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
