Southmoreland had just enough and edged Laurel Highlands out 55-52. Given Southmoreland's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Laurel Highlands is ranked 554th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Albert Gallatin strolled past Ligonier Valley with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 76-61.
Albert Gallatin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shymere Wilson, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mykel Belt, who scored 20 points.
Southmoreland's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Albert Gallatin, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Southmoreland took their win against Albert Gallatin when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 83-63. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southmoreland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
