After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. John's, Montpelier was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Delta Panthers a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Locomotives have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Wesley Hartsock made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kenneth Smeltzer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Jaxon Stahler was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Montpelier has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Delta, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Coming up, Montpelier will head out to challenge Swanton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Locomotives 3.4, the Bulldogs 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Delta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
