The York Cougars will face off against the Clover Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as York comes in on four and Clover on five.
York is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Dreher with a sharp 17-3 victory on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Colby Falls made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Falls was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Connor Sweatt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Whiteside, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, Clover never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Hillcrest. The Blue Eagles not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12th.
Aiden Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aiden Wainscott, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. TJ McCluney was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4.
Clover's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for York, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. York has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
