1A Conference 5 recap November 5, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Andrew Rowley and Joe McNamara connected against Walkertown. The connection went for 86 yards, the longest such play in 1A Conference 5 this season.
East Surry added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Atkins, 52-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Bishop McGuinness's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Rowley threw for 86 and 1 touchdown and McNamara had 86 yards receiving. On the ground Rowley chipped in 84 yards.
The Villains' dynamic duo of Rowley and McNamara proved tough for the Wolfpack to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
John Dickenson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as East Surry topped Atkins. He completed 11 passes for 168 yards and also ran for 49 yards. Dickenson's favorite target this week was Blake Marion, who caught 5 passes for 58 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback LOGAN HOLDER of Mount Airy is the league leader in passing yards this season with 982. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dwight Sellars. The Atkins star has 25 catches for 552 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when David Diamont's team takes on the Bears. The Cardinals are in first place, while Mount Airy is in third place.
East Surry took down Eric Puryear's team 52-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dickenson ran for 49 yards during the win.
