The West Johnston Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by South Garner 74-38. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points West Johnston has scored all season.
West Johnston's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dionta'e Williams, who scored nine points. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Kameron Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
West Johnston struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Garner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kai Muschette, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of TJ Dixon, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
West Johnston's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-6. As for South Garner, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
West Johnston won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cape Fear Christian Academy at 11:30 a.m. on December 28, 2023. One thing working in Cape Fear Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. South Garner won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rocky Mount at 5:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Hopefully Rocky Mount focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday.
