Two dominant guards in Demarius Knight and Jordan Corman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wildwood Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the East Ridge Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Wildwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully East Ridge likes a good challenge.
If Wildwood beats East Ridge with 75 points on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Wildwood took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 75-28 victory over Keystone Heights. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.
Wildwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Louis Brown, who made all 10 shots he took to post 21 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Traeston Armstrong, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Wildwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, East Ridge was beaten by Lake Minneola 92-58 on Friday. The Knights have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Wildwood will need focus on slowing down Julian Estevaz, one of several East Ridge players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points. Estevaz is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Corman, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals.
Wildwood is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for East Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wildwood has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 27.3 boards per game. However, it's not like East Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Wildwood against East Ridge when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 77-48 win. Will Wildwood repeat their success, or does East Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
