The Bishop Moore Hornets just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Bishop Moore has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Bishop Moore pushed their score all the way to 63 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-63 to Lake Mary. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (58), Bishop Moore still had to take the loss.
Cameron Codio put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Justin Suarez, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe Catholic put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past George Jenkins 71-37 at home. Given Santa Fe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while George Jenkins is ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tate Darner was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games he's played. Hudson Dykhuizen was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Bishop Moore bumped their record down to 10-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Bishop Moore have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Santa Fe Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 26.1 rebounds per game. Given Bishop Moore's sizeable advantage in that area, Santa Fe Catholic will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bishop Moore didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Santa Fe Catholic in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 63-59 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop Moore since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
