Softball Game Preview: Harrison Central Huskies vs. Edison Wildcats

The Harrison Central Huskies will venture away from home to square off against the Edison Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edison took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Harrison Central, who comes in off a win.

Harrison Central's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against East Liverpool as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Mikayla Pelegreen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Powers, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Edison came up short against Oak Glen on Friday, falling 14-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Harrison Central has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Edison, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Harrison Central couldn't quite get it done against Edison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
