Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenfield-Central). Everything went their way against the New Castle Trojans on Monday as they made off with a 14-1 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Tovaria Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Greenfield-Central got a massive performance out of Charlotte Riehle, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI Riehle has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kristen Wineinger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Greenfield-Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Greenfield-Central's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for New Castle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenfield-Central will challenge New Palestine at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Castle, they will take on Lawrence Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
