Jon-Kolbi Stanley looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three contests.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cason Blackwood, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Ryder Blackwood was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lewis County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Columbia Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 22, 2024.
Fletch Kelsey was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kelsey was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Lewis County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brayden Whitlow was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Steele Moseley, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Lewis County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Summertown, their record now sits at 17-6.
Summertown skirted past Lewis County 3-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
