The Espanola Valley Sundevils are taking a road trip to square off against the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Espanola Valley is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Espanola Valley came up short against Moriarty and fell 3-1. While the Sundevils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pintos 25-18 in the first set.
Espanola Valley started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.
Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley had to endure a nine-match losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Moriarty on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Elks/Elkettes have posted since September 20th.
Pojoaque Valley wouldn't go down easily and took Moriarty into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 15-10.
Espanola Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Pojoaque Valley, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-18.
Espanola Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Pojoaque Valley in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sundevils since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
