Volleyball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Addy Smith and Eleanor Smith-Jones

After flying high against Walsingham Academy on Tuesday, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy came back down to earth. The Saints took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cape Henry Collegiate Dolphins on Thursday. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dolphins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

While Nansemond-Suffolk Academy ultimately came up short, they really made Cape Henry Collegiate work, particularly in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 25-15.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Eleanor Smith-Jones and Addy Smith. Smith-Jones had 18 digs and two aces, while Smith had eight digs and two assists. Smith-Jones is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will host Norfolk Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they will square off against Norfolk Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
