The George Jenkins Eagles suffered their biggest defeat since November 27, 2023 on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 66-26 loss at the hands of Kathleen. While losing is never fun, George Jenkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Kathleen is ranked 90th).
George Jenkins lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marykate Benham, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. Ivelisse Orengo was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Amaya Shaw continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kathleen, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Shaw is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jade Grier, who scored ten points along with two steals.
George Jenkins now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Kathleen, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Jenkins won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against McKeel Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. McKeel Academy is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Kathleen, they will head out on the road to challenge Winter Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
