Kaiden Nichols put up the most strikeouts he's had since back in March on Tuesday. He struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Even though Nichols couldn't lead Riverside-Durham over Northern Durham, he won't have to wait long to try again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sadly, Nichols' big day wasn't enough to stop the loss, which snapped the Pirates' 11-game streak of wins at home. With the streak broken, Nichols and the Pirates surely have a bit of extra motivation heading into Friday's match.
