Hardin-Jefferson is 8-2 against the Longhorns since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Hardin-Jefferson Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hardin-Jefferson proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 24) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hargrave 66-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
In what's become a running theme this season, Hamshire-Fannett gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They breezed by Livingston at home to the tune of 86-54. Given Hamshire-Fannett's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Lions are ranked 681st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The victory was the third in a row for Hardin-Jefferson, bringing their record for this year to 16-12. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Hamshire-Fannett, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.
Hardin-Jefferson came up short against the Longhorns in their previous matchup back in January, falling 67-61. Can Hardin-Jefferson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
