On Tuesday, the Foothill Falcons faced the Mojave Rattlers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Foothill strolled past Mojave with points to spare, taking the game 62-47. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as Foothill did.
Foothill's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zak Abdalla, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Abdalla has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Shawn Salazar, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, Mojave still got an impressive performance from C.J. Shaw, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Shaw is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Williams, who scored ten points.
Mojave struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Mojave, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-8.
Foothill will head out on the road to square off against Coronado at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Coronado knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Foothill likes a good challenge. As for Mojave, they will be playing at home against Las Vegas at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Las Vegas is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62.2 points per game.
