Bonny Eagle is 1-9 against Thornton Academy since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Scots will face off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Bonny Eagle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Bonny Eagle easily dispatched Falmouth on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Scots fell just short of Kennebunk by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Scots couldn't push the score so high this time.
Reese Bryant was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Neveah Hagerman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thornton Academy). They walked away with a 15-10 victory over Westbrook on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Blue Blazes: they've now won seven in a row.
Sophia Bogardus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bogardus was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Thornton Academy let Theresa Eng and Emma Barnes run wild. Eng went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Barnes got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Madison Tripp was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Thornton Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westbrook only posted a batting average of .214.
Thornton Academy's record now sits at 2-3. As for Bonny Eagle, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bonny Eagle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bonny Eagle came out on top in a nail-biter against Thornton Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Scots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
