The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northridge, who took down 30th ranked Northridge, 21-7.
Eddie Johnson and Mondarrius Griggs provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Tuscaloosa County. The longest such play in 6A Region 5 this season, the connection resulted in 85 yards.
Minor's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Johnson threw for 133 and one touchdown and Griggs had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Griggs chipped in 50 yards. Tyler Wright helped Minor's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.
Antwan Ward made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Tigers fell to the Wildcats. The defensive lineman forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
6-foot-1 quarterback Tyler Gates of Tuscaloosa County is the league leader in passing yards this season with 499. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, Minor's Griggs has rushed for 699 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Griggs. The Minor star has nine catches for 372 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lee Gibson's team takes on Hillcrest. The Wildcats are in second place, while the Patriots are in third place.
Randy Cook's team moved up to 128 from 164 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 6A Region 5. The Tigers were able to make the jump by losing to Tuscaloosa County 35-13.
