Peotone extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-12. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Reed-Custer Comets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-8 on Monday.
Kayden Derkacy put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. That one earned run gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Declan McMaster made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Tyler Leitelt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
As for Reed-Custer, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
On Reed-Custer's side, the team relied heavily on Chase Isaac, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Fierro, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Peotone will head out to take on Westmont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Reed-Custer, they will be playing at home against Beecher at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
