The Union Area Scotties will challenge the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Union Area sitting on four straight wins and DuBois Central Catholic on three.
Union Area is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Purchase Line a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Scotties have won 17 contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Preuhs made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Union Area got a massive performance out of Irelyn Fisher, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs Fisher has posted since back in April. Olivia Benedict was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Meanwhile, DuBois Central Catholic narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Juniata Valley 3-2.
Rylee Kulbatsky spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Kiki Foster was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Union Area pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for DuBois Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Union Area's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Scotties have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for DuBois Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Union Area continue to outrun the ball?
Union Area came up short against DuBois Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Scotties avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
