Last Thursday, Abilene Christian got themselves on the board against Highlands, but Highlands never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Blazers 2-0. Given Abilene Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Highlands is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Covenant Classical had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 52.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 56-0 win over Harvest Christian Academy. Covenant Classical's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Covenant Classical got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hudson Williams out in front who threw for 209 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. Williams is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Blake Schroeder was in the mix too, providing Covenant Classical with three touchdowns.
Covenant Classical's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Luke Evans.
Their wins bumped Abilene Christian to 7-1 and Covenant Classical to 6-1.
