Codi Mateo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Damonte Ranch got a great performance from Kolten Matter as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Wigfield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Damonte Ranch: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Dietz, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Reed scored first but ultimately less than McQueen in their matchup on Saturday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers.
Gage Burns was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Damonte Ranch now has a winning record of 10-9-1. As for Reed, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12-1 record this season.
Damonte Ranch couldn't quite get it done against Reed when the teams last played back in March as they fell 7-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
