After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Springwood, the Lafayette Christian Cougars were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They came out on top against Central Christian by a score of 91-78. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Lafayette Christian had a senior duo take command as Joshua Zapatta scored 36 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals and Bruno Tellez went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 3 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Vakiel Hammett, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Seth Rivers and Rocky Steidinger certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Rivers scored 34 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds, while Steidinger dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Steidinger scored a full 25.6% of Central Christian's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hudson Byers was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 3 steals.
Lafayette Christian now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Central Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Lafayette Christian will be playing at home against Shiloh Hills Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Shiloh Hills Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Lafayette Christian likes a good challenge. Central Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Trinity Christian School of Griffin at 7:30 p.m. on December 7th.
