The Athens Bluejays will venture away from home to challenge the Edgar Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Athens didn't have quite enough to beat Tomahawk and fell 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Bluejays in their meetings with the Hatchets: they've now lost six in a row.
Jaelin Switlick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Brynley Louis made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. Brinley Kornack was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Edgar came out on top against Newman Catholic on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cardinals. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won eight in a row.
Kendyl Apfelbeck was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jorja Knetter, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Kaiser, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Edgar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Edgar, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Athens has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edgar struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Athens might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Edgar in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Bluejays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
