The Wilmington Wildcats's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Reed-Custer Comets at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Wilmington will be strutting in after a victory while Reed-Custer will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Monday, everything went Wilmington's way against Streator as Wilmington made off with a 49-27 win. The victory was just what Wilmington needed coming off of a 67-38 loss in their prior game.
Wilmington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexi Liaromatis, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sami Liaromatis, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Reed-Custer's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight defeat. They took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lisle.
Despite the loss, Reed-Custer got a solid performance out of Kaylee Tribble, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Mya Beard was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Wilmington's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-18. As for Reed-Custer, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season.
Saturday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wilmington have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Reed-Custer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wilmington might still be hurting after the 45-22 defeat they got from Reed-Custer in their previous matchup back in January. Can Wilmington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
