Athens is a perfect 4-0 against Decatur since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Athens Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Decatur Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Athens will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Athens needed a bit of extra time to put away Hartselle. They won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Eagles have posted against the Tigers since May 10, 2022.
Athens got a great performance from Camry Townsend as she pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, Lily Lowery was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Amaya Green was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Decatur brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victor by a 30-4 margin over Lee on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Red Raiders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Mallie Hudson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lizzie Kresch and Emme Palmer did most of the damage at the plate: Kresch went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Palmer scored three runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Charlotte Stephenson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .891. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Athens' record is now 14-6. As for Decatur, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-14.
Decatur's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Athens hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Decatur, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Athens' hitters?
Athens took their victory against Decatur in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 11-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Athens since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
