The Northeastern Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 28 points or more this season. They blew past New Castle 69-34 on the road. Given Northeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while New Castle is ranked 351st), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Addisen Mastriano was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. She set a new season high mark in assists with five. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Mikesell, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
New Castle's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Morley Blessinger, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Emma Hart who scored eight points along with five assists. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Northeastern is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for New Castle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-12.
Northeastern will be home for the holidays to greet Connersville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Connersville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday. As for New Castle, they will head out on the road to face off against Batesville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
