Canutillo is 8-2 against Jefferson since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will head out to square off against the Silver Foxes at 6:00 p.m. Canutillo has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chapin hit Canutillo with a nine-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 14-13.
Alina Banda put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Rebecca Gonzalez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Izzy Salazar, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Jefferson hadn't done well against El Paso recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Silver Foxes came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 12-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Silver Foxes considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Helen Osornio was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Elizabella Quinonez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Paso only posted an OBP of .324.
Jefferson's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 16-3-1. As for Canutillo, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-19.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Canutillo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Canutillo's way against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Canutillo made off with a 21-4 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Silver Foxes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
