Basketball Recap: Lanier Skates Past Duluth with Ease

Lanier won the last time they faced Duluth and things went their way on Friday too. The Longhorns blew past the Wildcats, posting a 69-42 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Longhorns.

Lanier's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aliyah Gillespie led the charge by putting up 20 points along with five assists and five steals. Michelle Ezumah was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Lanier was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Duluth only posted eight.

When it comes to explaining why Duluth lost, don't look at Za'Ni Carter. Despite the final result, she went 7-for-13 to rack up 19 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Saniya Johnson, who posted 13 points.

Lanier's record is now 2-0. As for Duluth, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Lanier wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 62-48 defeat against New Manchester on the 24th. Duluth has also already played their next game (against Greater Atlanta Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
