The West Jones Mustangs will face off against the Picayune Maroon Tide at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Jones comes in on 12 and Picayune on seven.
With a playoff game on the line, West Jones rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past the Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 21-7. Given West Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Terry is ranked 45th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Picayune can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pascagoula 38-0 on the road.
Picayune's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Darrell Smith, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Niquis Ratcliff, who gained 98 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped West Jones to 12-0 and Terry to 7-5.
West Jones came up short against Picayune when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 28-17. Thankfully for West Jones, Dante Dowdell (who rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
