Reed-Custer hasn't had much luck against Beecher recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Comets will look to defend their home field against the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m.
Wilmington hit Reed-Custer with a seven-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Wildcats, falling 15-3.
Meanwhile, Beecher strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Grant Park a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Bobcats have won 13 contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Allie Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Beecher got a massive performance out of Maddy Grooms, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Grooms has posted over her last 14 games. Elena Kvasnicka was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Beecher was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.
Reed-Custer's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Beecher, their win bumped their record up to 19-0.
