Rosters were unveiled Wednesday for the annual McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Games. The announcement was carried live by ESPNU as 48 of the top boys and girls players were selected to participate in the contest schedule for April 2 at the United Center in Chicago.
A selection committee led by chairman and Hall of Fame coach Morgan Wootten made the picks from a list of over 1,000 nominees.
Many of the top names in recent basketball history have participated in the storied showcase, including Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
This year's contest will be headlined by MaxPreps National Player of the Year frontrunners
Cliff Alexander of
Curie (Chicago) and
Stanley Johnson of
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.).
Alexander, a 6-foot-9 power forward, has been putting up monster double-doubles all season for national No. 2 Curie. The future Kansas Jayhawk will play for the East squad.
Johnson, a powerful 6-6 guard bound for Arizona, is bidding to become the first player in California history to start on four state championship teams. Mater Dei is unbeaten in 2013-14 and ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps.
The game will be of special interest for fans of Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Led by the famed package deal of
Tyus Jones and
Jahlil Okafor, four future Blue Devils will play in Chicago.
Kentucky will have four player of its own in action, highlighted by 6-9 Indianapolis forward
Trey Lyles. Three North Carolina signees were also selected to participate.
