WAXHAW, N.C. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Weddington (Matthews, N.C.) on Saturday, totaling 13 points as the Warriors defeated Marvin Ridge (Waxhaw, N.C.) 52-0.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Keith Duncan in the first quarter, the Warriors led 24-0 at the half.
Weddington expanded its lead to 45 points entering the fourth quarter. WHS scored three times in the third, including once on a
Jeff Welch touchdown pass to
Ryan Black.
Duncan was the top performer for the Matthews school. He kicked one field goal and seven extra points.
The Warriors went into the matchup giving up only 9.9 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Weddington came away with a 17-9 victory.
The loss comes after Marvin Ridge defeated Anson 15-7 last week.
