There's no place like home for the Waukegan Bulldogs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They secured a 42-37 W over Zion-Benton on Wednesday. That's another feather in the cap for Waukegan, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Waukegan found their leader in underclassman Aaliaya Cade, who scored 22 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cade has scored at least 25% of Waukegan's points. Ashley Phillips was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Zion-Benton's loss came despite strong showings from Baakir Christian and Lanay Houston. Christian scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Houston scored nine points along with eight rebounds. Houston continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Waukegan's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Zion-Benton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waukegan will face off against Warren Township at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Warren Township focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Thursday. As for Zion-Benton, they will head out on the road to face off against Libertyville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Libertyville is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
