It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Payson Lions ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against Uintah by a score of 75-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Kamika Wesley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kade Jenson, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Uintah had strong showings from Brayden Murray, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds, and Dauson Gardiner, who scored 22 points along with five assists and four steals. Gardiner is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Jenson, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Uintah were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 14 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Payson's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Uintah, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 68.35 points so far this season, Layton Christian Academy's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Lions better be ready for a challenge. As for Uintah, they will head out on the road to take on the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
