Jo Byrns is 2-7 against Springfield since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be playing at home against the Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Jo Byrns turned things around against East Robertson on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Indians. The Red Devils not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 26th (when they won 14-4).
Meanwhile, Springfield waltzed into their game on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory.
Ella Shoulders made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Shoulders was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Planer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Margret King, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pope John Paul II only posted a batting average of .304.
Springfield pushed their record up to 9-11-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Jo Byrns, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Jo Byrns took their victory against Springfield when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 12-6 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
