Callisburg has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Holliday Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Callisburg was fully in charge, breezing past Valley View 41-14 at home. Callisburg pushed the score to 41-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Valley View cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, Holliday had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 47-22 margin over City View. Given Holliday's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 256th, while City View is ranked 613th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holliday relied on the efforts of Parker Jones, who gained 171 total yards and two touchdowns, and Grant Cox, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Ashtyn Berry did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Callisburg now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Holliday, their victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Callisburg was taken down by Holliday 38-7 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Callisburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
