Neosho has gone 8-2 against McDonald County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wildcats will face off against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m.
It was a proper cat-fight when Neosho challenged Webb City on Tuesday. The Wildcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals.
While Neosho ultimately came up short, they really made Webb City work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-9, 25-17, 23-25, 26-24.
Meanwhile, McDonald County waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Trojans.
McDonald County never let Southwest on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-14.
Neosho better focus on containing Leslie Velazques and Jozlynn Grigsby as the pair were huge in McDonald County's win. Velazques had 13 digs and three aces, while Grigsby had four digs and two aces. What's more, Velazques posted two assists, the most she's had over her last nine contests.
McDonald County was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in four consecutive matches.
McDonald County's win bumped their record up to 8-16-2. As for Neosho, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-20-2 record this season.
Everything went Neosho's way against McDonald County in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as Neosho made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
