Cardinal and St. John are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Heralds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cardinal's last matchup with Kenston could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Thursday. The Huskies lost 14-7 to the Bombers. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Adelyn Grant was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Ivy Kaminski also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, St. John hadn't done well against Conneaut recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Heralds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Spartans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Heralds.
Isabelle Holler made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Holler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Holler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
St. John hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Cardinal's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for St. John, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Cardinal got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 against St. John by a conclusive 17-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
